Disney Invests in Esports for 2017 Accelerator Program

Team Liquid’s owners now have financial backing from one of the biggest entertainment entities in the world: The Walt Disney Company.

Today the company announced it was including aXiomatic in its 2017 Disney Accelerator program. aXiomatic holds a majority stake in the Team Liquid organization and a minority stake in Super League Gaming.  The company was created last fall and aXiomatic is owned by a group that includes Golden State Warriors, LA Dodgers, and Los Angeles Football Club co-owner Peter Guber. The company’s investors include Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis, AOL founder Steve Case, and NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

The Disney Accelerator program provides support for smaller companies in the form of various financial investments, guidance from top Disney executives, and access to office space on Disney’s campus in Los Angeles.

A notable previous participant in the program is Sphero, the company behind the wildly popular app-controll BB-8 robotic toy from Disney’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
